Protective Covering Services (PCS) is owned and operated by Frank and Tina Marino, and proudly serves all of Southern California. The idea to establish PCS was conceived when co-founder, Tina, was working as the Quality Control Manager for J.M. Peters Design Center in Newport Beach, California in the late 1980s. In this role, she was mainly responsible for resolving any issues that arose with newly installed flooring. A continuing problem she recognized was high-end floors, such as marble and oak hardwood, were often abused by painters, drywall repair specialists and other trades that needed to perform touch-up work before new home buyers closed escrow. In order to protect these expensive upgrades, Tina implemented the practice of temporarily covering the floors until touch-up work was complete. After researching many different types of material, she found that corrugated cardboard and special tapes that didn’t leave residue proved to be the most effective.

After leaving J.M. Peters, she saw an opportunity and developed a plan for transforming the floor protection idea into a business solely dedicated to catering to this specific need. Alas, Protective Covering Services was born.  Shortly after, Frank, an experienced professional in the construction industry, joined the new venture.

After pitching the idea to numerous builders, Terry Hardgrave of Warmington Homes in Costa Mesa awarded Protective Covering Services its first contract to install protective products in all their tract homes. Once the benefits of this service became clear the business grew, and expanded its expertise to covering handrails, bath tubs, thresholds and more. Other builders, such as Standard Pacific Homes, Shapell Homes and Brookfield Homes then followed suit, contracting PCS for their home protection needs as well.

In 1991, PCS teamed with Poly-Tak Protection Systems (products for the R.V. industry at the time) to develop new and innovative ways to protect various areas for the new home industry.  The PCS concept together with the Poly-Tak Protection System products were first introduced by PCS to the building industry at the Los Angeles and Orange County National Building Industry trade shows in 1992.  

Since 1989, Protective Covering Services has become a reliable and trustworthy resource for builders across Southern California. Through those years, PCS has experienced all the industry has gone through and continues its dedication to providing high-quality service and materials today.
